Teenager Archie Andrews, caught in an eternal love triangle with Betty and Veronica, was created in 1941 as an anti-Superman figure. The first popular female superhero, Wonder Woman, appeared in 1941. A skilled interpreter, he introduced the fissioning of U-235 to American readers in a May 5, 1939, front-page story in the New York Times.
