Working in partnership with the Wessex Cancer Trust, the Jersey Cancer Trust provides vital funding and support services for those Jersey patient’s diagnosed with cancer. Being diagnosed with cancer can be a daunting experience that not only affects you, but also your loved ones. In partnership with the Wessex Cancer Trust the Jersey Cancer Trust funds a range of free services, support, help and advice for you, your family, friends and carers. For those patient’s having to travel to the UK for treatment, the Jury’s Inn provides accommodation for patients receiving treatment in Southampton General Hospital. During a patients stay, every Wednesday Sue Goldsmith offers free massage, aroma therapy, reflexology and reikei sessions. Accompanying family members or friends can also take advantage of this free service.
The Daisylink bus service provides transport to and from the hospital and Jury’s Inn and is available free of charge. The drivers are a very helpful and friendly team. As a result of illness, our Jersey patients may often incur extra expenses that may be difficult or impossible to fund. In partnership with the Wessex Cancer Trust, we can assist with financial grants which can cover many needs. Applications are usually made on behalf of deserving cases by professional carers, consultants, Macmillan Nurses or your Health or Social Worker.
Our partner the Wessex Cancer Trust also provides comprehensive information on cancer and related issues through a series of leaflets covering early warning signs, expected treatment and advice for patients. There are over 60 “Self Help” leaflets and these can be ordered through us, or alternatively directly through the Wessex Cancer Trust. These leaflets are free to Jersey residents. For those patients receiving treatment in Southampton, The Wessex Cancer Trust’s head office at Bellis House, provides a free and confidential counselling service provided by Rosalind Beckett. Sue Goldsmith also provides free complimentary therapies. These services are once again provided free of charge for Jersey patients and their families. Ros is also at the Macmillan Centre at Southampton General Hospital every Thursday.
In partnership with the Wessex Cancer Trust, we are also able to offer holiday homes in both Hoburne Naish, New Milton and Waterside, Weymouth. This accommodation is available to Jersey patients and their families in order to provide a well earned break. The holiday homes can be booked for one week at a time, starting and ending on a Saturday for a suggested donation.
